Beresta is made by one person. Write directly — the author answers, not a support desk.

What to include

The more precise the report, the faster the fix. Useful to know:

• what you did and what you expected to see;
• what you saw instead — word for word, if the app said something;
• your Beresta version and your OS version;
• which book it happened with: format, rough size, where the file came from.

Diagnostics — one button, and you read it first

Settings has a Diagnostics section with a button that collects a report. It contains the app and OS version, the database format version, counters as numbers, sync state, and the tail of the app log.

Read the report before you send it — it contains personal details. The log tail is written in the clear, and it picks up book and article titles, full URLs of pages you saved from the browser, paths containing your account name, and reading positions. Quotes from your books are not in it.

The report is shown to you in full, as plain text, before anything is sent. You send it — you save the file and attach it to an email. There is no endpoint on our side; nothing leaves your device on its own. If you would rather not send all of it, delete the lines you don’t want: the report still reads fine.

The screen inside the app currently claims the report contains no book titles or paths. That claim is wrong and will be corrected: verified against the code on 20260906.

If data went missing

Start with a copy: File → “Save a copy of the library…”. The copy is an archive with a manifest, a copy of the database and your book files; make one before anything that feels risky.

If there is no copy, don’t reinstall anything yet — write to me. More can be recovered while the traces are fresh.

Your data comes out without Beresta

The database format is documented openly and released under CC0: the schema, the vault snapshot, and a reference reader for highlights. This is deliberate — “your data” should not depend on whether the app is still alive. Even if Beresta disappears, your library remains an ordinary SQLite file next to ordinary book files.

How long to wait

Usually a day or two. I won’t promise an hour: I work alone, and saying so is more honest than printing a pretty number.
